“Improving the world”, being “a light to the nations”, and “hacares tov” or gratitude for the hundreds of years the UK has provided us with safe home, are all at the heart of Tikun’s educational mission and philosophy. Tikun, through its Tikun Olam segment, turns these theoretical ideals into practical action.
Our focus is on real opportunities to make a material difference to individuals or organisations in need; thereby making a genuine impact however big or small in improving our world.
Tikun Olam provides many opportunities including:
• Regular volunteering for individuals, schools or youth movements
• Light up a Life – a winter volunteering project at a difficult time for people in need
• Annual Packathons collecting items for organisations in need
• Hope for Heroism – An annual visit of respite and communal love for a group of wounded Israeli soldiers
“Not everyone can say they have a friend who is 101! B's birthday is just 2 days before mine, but she was born 75 years before me and what a fantastic lady she is! My Sundays are highlighted if I spend just a couple of hours with B, L and friends! This started in late 2007 volunteering with Tikun at B’s care home and has developed since. Thanks S.H.”
“We felt the day was a big success… the group were really happy about the day, as were J as an organisation. We really felt like partners in creating a day of volunteering for our members. We know that they have taken a lot from the experience and are keen to share their stories…. Thanks for helping get everything organised; I am sure that J and Tikun will be working together in the future! T. H.”
“I volunteered 2 years ago for Crisis over the winter period and I met a lovely young lady who had also volunteered through Tikun. A few days later the young lady rang me and asked if I would like to meet someone as I mentioned in conversation I was divorced. I said I would, he rang me and we have been together for two years now and are extremely happy. All thanks to Tikun’s advertisement in the JC! I will never know what drew me to Crisis or my picking out J from all the people there – it makes one think........ K. I.”
